Dr Andrew McCance is a highly distinguished Specialist Orthodontist with over four decades of clinical and academic excellence. After earning his BDS from the University of Glasgow in 1978, Andrew embarked on an extensive postgraduate journey, achieving fellowships and specialist diplomas from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His commitment to the science of orthodontics culminated in a PhD from University College London in 1992, where he specialized in the study of three-dimensional surgical change.
As the founder and Principal of our Rochester and East Grinstead clinics since 1992, Andrew has been a pioneer in the field. He famously developed and led the innovative clear aligner company, Clearstep, and has lectured both nationally and internationally on the application of aligners in complex cases. His contributions to dental science are well-documented; he has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and is recognized in Who’s Who in Medicine, Science, and Engineering.
Clinical Expertise & Patient Care
Andrew’s approach combines world-class clinical expertise with a genuine passion for the patient journey. He offers a full spectrum of orthodontic solutions for both children and adults, ranging from functional appliances and traditional straight-wire braces to discreet options like lingual braces and Invisalign. With over a decade as a registered Invisalign provider, he is particularly renowned for his ability to solve complex cases using clear aligner systems.
Beyond the practice, Andrew’s career has been marked by significant humanitarian and consultant roles. He served as a Specialist Orthodontist at Great Ormond Street Hospital and was a key member of the Sri Lankan Cleft Lip and Palate team, researching methods to improve outcomes for patients with facial differences. At our clinics, he is motivated by the diverse patient base and the pleasure of seeing a patient’s confidence transformed through their smile. Under his leadership, our practices have maintained long-standing membership in the BDA Good Practice Scheme, with our East Grinstead clinic achieving Gold-rated status.
Outside of the Practice
When he is not at the clinic or advancing orthodontic research, Andrew is a dedicated family man who treasures time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. While he is now focused on his family and his practices, he was previously an avid marathon runner, bringing that same sense of endurance and discipline to his professional life.
